I didn’t work this hard to stay where I belong.

You work, I boss.

It’s Monday morning after a week long vacation and I am getting ready for 100 plus emails, voicemails, and everything else that piles on after 5 days away from the office. The typical water cooler chatter, “how was your vacation” and “how was the weather” takes over the first hour of my work day when a peculiar comment is made. “You should absolutely apply for the next lead officer position, you belong in a leadership position.”

“So most days I am in my boss mood, unable to articulate subordinate conversations knowing that God has something much greater than a lead officer position. ”

I could not understand why that comment bothered me until last month. Was it the fact that “I belonged” in a lead officer position and not a management or supervisor position? Was it the fact that “I belonged” in a position that doesn’t exist in my division or was it the fact that someone told me where “I belong”. Yes, that was it. I didn't work this hard to stay where you say “I belong.”

I acquire the conversations of deputy directors, chief of staffs, and senior program managers. Most of my closest co-workers are in offices not cubicles and my closest friends are full time business owners and entrepreneurs. So most days I am in my boss mood, unable to articulate subordinate conversations knowing that God has something much greater than a lead officer position.

Because I serve of God of favor, I will not settle for a lead officer position - that is not what God ordained. That is not what I work hard for. While I am grateful for my position, I will not dwell there. For God says based on my skills I will stand before kings (Proverbs 22:29) therefore I have to reach forward to what lies ahead (Philippians 3:13).

So now, when I wake for work I thank God for the income that comes from my position but also for the ability to know that I am working hard to GO where GOD says I BELONG. People may put you in the place that they see you in, but only God can guide and direct you to the true purpose and maximum ability for HIS glory. While they are working, I am bossing - no shade at all. Do not let others put you where they believe you belong. Be confident and know that all things work together for the good and God has your back.
